The English word, “worship” is derived from an Old English term meaning “worthiness” or “worth-ship.”  Because of Who God is all He has done, He Alone is worthy of our worship.  Corporate Worship is the highest calling and the highest privilege of a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Our worship is Trinitarian, directed to God the Father in the Name of God the Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, and through the Power of God the Holy Spirit.  At Grace Church of the Islands our worship is regulated by the Word of God.  Therefore, the elements of our worship seek to bring glory to the Triune God in a way that is reverent, God-centered and God-inspired.  We are led and enabled in our worship by the Holy Spirit.  The God of the Bible is the Creator of all worlds, Maker and Sustainer of all things and is altogether Holy.  Therefore, He is to be approached with reverence and awe.  He is the Transcendent God Who is high above us.  At the same time, He is the God Who has come near to us in the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ and has provided the only Way of Salvation for undeserving sinners like us through His shed blood.  He is the Immanent God Who has drawn near to us.  Our aim in worship is to embody these characteristics of God.  In light of this, worship at Grace Church of the Islands is simple.  We have a traditional, Reformed worship service that is joyful and reverent, utilizing the grand liturgical traditions and creeds in a warm and welcoming way.  Our preaching is expositional, our hymns seek to exalt the Glory of God and celebrate the Gospel of His Salvation and our prayers are filled with praise and confession.  We preach the Word of God.  We pray the Word of God.  We sing the Word of God.  We celebrate the Word of God in the Sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

“There is nothing to which all men should pay more attention,

nothing in which God wishes us to exhibit a more intense eagerness than in endeavoring that

the glory of His name may remain undiminished, His kingdom be advanced, and the pure

doctrine which alone can guide us to true worship, flourish in full strength.”
